Beware of the following

Top 3 physical therapy traps to avoid

1) Not seeing results immediately?

You should see pain relief and results right away. Most physical therapists are not trained on fast-acting techniques so patients have to wait for relief and results.  If they are good, you should see results immediately.  Physical therapy isn’t just rehabilitation, but fast pain relief.  The treatments offered by Total Body Center (TBC) have been reported as being “revolutionary”, fast-acting, and affordable.

2) Not enough “hands-on” care?

If treatments mainly consist of ultrasound, heat/ice, exercise (mainly), electrical stimulation or other passive treatments like a "massage", the results will be temporary and short-lived.  People with arthritis, injuries, and chronic pain need someone with skilled training to put their hands on them, restore balance, and relief pain with collaborative approaches.  That’s what the team at Total Body Center do.  They are the best physical therapists in Alhambra, and their patient’s love the fast results and affordable care.  Physical therapy in the San Gabriel Valley is not the same anywhere else.

3) Not encouraged to improve on your own?

Most physical therapy businesses are exactly that, a business. They don’t want patients to get better TOO fast.  They won’t make money if patients don’t ‘need’ them anymore.  As a result, many physical therapy clinics 'do not' empower the patient. They don’t give patients the tips and tools or education to get better faster on their own. Total Body Center does.  Their belief is that if they get you better faster, then patients will tell their family and friends about their great experiences and will help them grow.

Why TBC Physical Therapy versus a Chiropractor?

First of all, Physical Therapist and Chiropractors are NOT the same. We have completely different education and treatment philosophy. Another difference is, TBC physical therapist goes to the root of your problem and not just merely treat the symptoms. They don’t expect you to come to them for 5-10 years.  Most patients get better within 4 to 6 visits at TBC.  TBC uses muscle energy, posture balancing, specific exercises along with joint mobilization, and hands-on soft-tissue techniques to bring about fast healing.  You will notice the difference.

Why TBC Physical Therapy versus a personal fitness trainer, athletic trainer, cross-fit trainer, movement specialist, or a coach?

Although some physical therapy practices employs personal trainers, athletic trainers, and sometimes sport coaches, but only the Physical Therapist are experts on musculo-skeletal disorders licensed by the state board to identify mechanical faults, evaluate for dysfunctions or impairments, and prescribe specific treatments to resolve the injured or faulty athletes.  For example, a pro golfer coach or trainer may understand the form and technique for a good club swing, but they don't understand or have the knowledge about the mechanisms of how and why when the movement doesn't occur to their individual clients.  This could be from many factors like weakness, inflexibility, or structural deformities that keeps their client from swinging the golf club the way they should.  Physical therapists are the only licensed health-care professionals capable to test and measures this effectively.  Similarly, with the increase trend in Cross-fit gyms, more and more people are getting injured from their programs.  They may know how to lift a barbell over their heads, but unless they're also Physical Therapists, cross-fit trainers may not know the proper form and techniques tailored to their individual or clients for safety.  Besides, unless you want to look like an Olympic weight-lifter, Cross-fit training may not be your right personal fitness goal.

We also learned that a lot of personal trainers and other unlicensed individuals claim to be a "movement specialist" or "sports movement specialist" prescribing "corrective exercises," but this confuses the public thinking that they are physical therapists.  It seems like more and more coaches, and fitness trainers are all jumping on the band wagon with this marketing jargon.  The terms were first used by physical therapists who helps people with movement disorders from a stroke, and other neurological impairments, but it seems to be leaked out into the fitness world making it sound better on their business cards or on their bio pages. Although Dr. Hang is indeed a movement specialist and prescribes corrective exercises on a daily basis, he tries not to use these terms so loosely to avoid any public confusion.

Why TBC Physical Therapy versus medicine/drugs?

No side-effects period!  All their solutions and treatments are natural, drug and side-effect free. They get to the root of your problem, NOT merely treat the symptoms. Patients boast about how great they feel after each and every treatment. That’s why their patients love them and come to them only. They believe in building relationships that will last a lifetime.
